(TIME IS OF THE ESSENSE for all of our animals listed! We try very hard but just do not have enough room for the large number of strays and owner surrenders that we receive in this rural county. We understand that education is the answer but old habits & attitudes are often hard to break. If you see an animal that you are interested in please contact us right away - you will definitely be saving a life when you adopt or rescue from us!)

Prayer of a Stray

Dear God please send me somebody who'll care! I'm tried of running, I'm sick with despair. My body is aching, it's so racked with pain, and dear God I pray as I run in the rain.

That someone will love me and give me a home. A warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone. My last owner tied me all day in the yard Sometimes with no water and God that was hard!

So I chewed my leash God and I ran away To rummage in garbage and live as a stray. But now God I'm tired and hungry and cold. And I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old.

They've chased me with sticks and hit me with stones While I run the streets just looking for bones! I'm not really bad God, please help if you can, For I have become just a "victim of man!

I'm wormy dear God and I'm ridden with fleas and All that I want is an owner to please! If you find one for me God, I'll try to be good And I won't chew their shoes, but I'll do as I should.

I'll love them, protect them and try to obey When they tell me to sit, to lie down or to stay! I don't think I'll make it too long on my own, Cause I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone.

Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry, Cause I'm so afraid God, that I'm gonna to die! And I've got so much love and devotion to give, That I should be given a new chance to live.

So dear God please, please answer my prayer and Send me someone who will really care ... That is, dear God, if you're really there!

Please don't let your pets Roam - Keep them safely at Home! Be a Responsible Pet Owner!

Who We Are!!!

The Marion-Grant County Humane Society is a nonprofit organization on a mission to save more lives. We are always searching for new ways to do fundraisers and to get more of our "kids" to safe and loving homes or rescue groups.

We need your help in controlling the pet overpopulation, in turn our overcrowding issue, and can only be done with responsible pet ownership. This entails keeping your animals at your home and getting them spayed or neutered.

Please Consider This!

There are 45 cats and dogs for every person born.
Only 1 out of 10 dogs born ever get a home.
Only 1 out of 12 cats born ever find a home.
800 dogs & cats are KILLED each HOUR in the U.S,
because there are not enough homes for them!

Please support animal rescue! Spay & neuter your pets and don't let them Roam! You can choose to be part of the solution or Part of the Problem -
it's up to YOU!

Please Do Not Take Pet Ownership Casually - We Get Many Owner Surrendered Animals Due To The Following Reasons!

According to the GA. Fulton County animal shelter, you shouldn't get a dog if you:

Can't afford to take him to a vet when he gets sick or injured.

Can't afford dog food, a dog house, heartworm and flea prevention.

Can't afford annual rabies and parvo vaccinations.

Can't afford to spay or neuter him.

Don't have a stable living situation which allows dogs.

Don't have a stable job or income.

Don't plan to keep him inside and leash walk him or you don't have a secure fenced area.

Don't plan to socialize him to people and other pets and obedience train him.

Plan to leave him outside without much attention. Dogs who are left neglected outside become unhappy and cause barking problems or worse.

Are getting the dog just for your kids. You will be the one responsible for his care, so don't get a dog just because your son wants one.

Aren't committed to caring for him for his entire 10- to 15-year lifespan.

We are always looking for more people to help us "transport" our animals to safe rescues in other states or within Indiana

The Pet's Bill of Rights

1) We have the right to be full members of your family. We thrive on social interaction, praise, and love.

2) We have the right to stimulation. We need new games, new toys, new experiences, and new smells to be happy.

3) We have the right to regular exercise. Without it, we could become hyper, sluggish...or fat.

4) We have the right to have fun. We enjoy acting like clowns now and then; don't expect us to be predictable all the time.

5) We have the right to quality health care. Please stay good friends with our vet!

6) We have the right to a good diet. Like some people, we don't know what's best for us. We depend on you.

7) We have the right not to be rejected because of your expectations that we be great show dogs or show cats, watchdogs, hunters, or baby-sitters.

8) We have the right to receive proper training. Otherwise, our good relationship could be marred by confusion and strife - and we could become dangerous to ourselves and others.

9) We have the right to guidance and correction based on understanding and compassion, rather than abuse.

10) We have the right to live with dignity...and to die with dignity when the time comes.

A Prayer for Animals

by Albert Schweitzer

Hear, our humble prayer, O God, for our friends, the animals. Especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them, we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful.
