Adoption Fees

We charge an adoption fee to help us cover the cost of the veterinary care provided prior to adoption. All cats adopted from Friendly & Feral have already received the following veterinary care:

  • all vaccinations, including rabies (RV) and distemper combo (FVRCP)
  • routine deworming
  • FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and FeLV (Feline Leukemia) testing
  • spaying/neutering

Adoption Policies

Friendly & Feral Adoption Counselors will work with you to identify the cat that will fit best into your home and family. Should the adoption not work out, we will always take the cat back.

Declawing - Paws come with claws! Friendly & Feral requires that adoptees agree not to declaw cats adopted from us at any time in the future. We provide assistance and advice about how to clip nails and protect your home and furniture from damage. In addition, we have cats that are already declawed that are available for adoption.

Who We Are

Friendly & Feral Cat Rescue is an all volunteer, no-kill, non-profit organization working to find loving, permanent homes for the cats in our care. Our cats are housed in foster homes or at Petco in Mount Prospect and provided with the love and veterinary care until they are adopted.

What is a feral cat?

A feral cat is a wild animal, not socialized or interested in human contact. They do not make good pets. They live outside and have frequent litters of kittens. A group of unneutered feral cats can reproduce rapidly and become a nuisance to the humans in the area where they live.

What can I do to help feral cats?

People often find themselves in a situation where they've been feeding what they thought was a stray cat or two. After a while, a litter of kittens is born and before long the situation can quickly get out of control. The humane solution to controlling the feral cat population is T-N-R, or Trap, Neuter and Return.

T-N-R works! Read a case study on the successful management of a feral cat colony right here in Chicago.

I need help with a feral cat! Can Friendly & Feral take it?

Feral cats do not make good pets. They are wild animals, and live outdoors. Friendly & Feral volunteers have many years of experience with feral cats, and can provide you with advice and resources. Everything from providing appropriate shelter in the winter, to advice on how to T-N-R (Trap-Neuter-Return), to resources for low-cost spay and neuter. Contact us for more information.
