Mojo is a one year old Dachshund mix. She weighs about 18 pounds and has had her rabies shot. She has not been spayed so will need to have that done before going into a new home. She gets along well with cats and is house trained. If you are interested in adopting Mojo an approved adoption screening is the first step. Call the shelter (618- 262-7109) or email the shelter at email@example.com to request the screeening form. Don't wait too long to request the form and miss out on adopting this little sweetheart!
We are a small county shelter with one full time Animal Control Officer and a handful of very dedicated volunteers. We are licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Agriculture. Our shelter is small and cannot hold many animals. We hold strays for seven days to give owners time to locate and retrieve their lost pets. Owner surrenders are held at the discretion of the Animal Control Officer. Hundreds of animals come to our shelter each year. Every opportunity is made to find homes for the animals, however, if homes cannot be found, the animals can be euthanized. The animals at the shelter deserve a second chance and a loving home! Our staff is dedicated to saving as many animals as possible. We have made great progress in decreasing euthanasia numbers and increasing adoptions. We have caring, loving, and dedicated volunteers that provide needed attention to the animals at the shelter. The animals are given high quality food, a bath, water, veterinary care, and lots of TLC.
If you are interested in adopting an animal, please contact the Wabash County Animal Shelter to receive an adoption screening form. An adoption screening form must be completed to help with matching the right pet to the right family. Please have vet reference, landlord contacts, and employer information available. The adopting individual will sign a contract stating that animal will be spayed/neutered, and that required vaccinations will be obtained. The county collects $14 from each adoption, and an additional donation of $61 is assessed for dogs and cats that have been vaccinated and spayed/neutered. Microchipping is available with an additional fee. The donated funds will be used to cover some of the cost of vaccinations and spay/neuter. Adoptions will be approved at the discretion of the shelter staff.
We are always in need of volunteers to help our animals. Help is needed to walk dogs, clean kennels and cages, fold laundry, clean dishes, foster animals, fundraise, and so much more. If you would like to be a part of our organization or have any questions about volunteer opportunites, please call the Wabash County Animal Shelter. All help is needed!
To continue our mission and provide the animals with the care they need, we need funds to help pay for vaccinations, worming, spay/neuter, heartworm and flea prevention, food, and any other medical need. Please help save the life of a precious and innocent animal by contributing towards their care.
Donations can be made payable to the Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies and mailed to the Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies at 11336 N. 1550 Blvd., Mt. Carmel, Illinois 62863. Please make note of the pet you would like to sponsor and help save while they find a forever home. You can also click the "Sponsor Me" button on the animal's biography to make your donation online. Every amount can help save a life!
Regular hours for viewing and adoptions are from 9AM to 12PM, Monday through Thursday. We do suggest that you call and set up an appointment to guarantee a volunteer will be available. There are times when our volunteers are at other adoption events or are taking animals to vet appointments during those hours. The Animal Control Officer can be reached by message 8AM to 4PM, Monday through Friday. If you would like to view an animal outside our regular hours, please call the shelter and set up an appointment.
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill, Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still. Where the friends of man and woman do run, When their time on earth is over and done. For here, between this world and the next, Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest. On this golden land, they wait and they play, Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day. No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness, For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness. Their limbs are restored, their health renewed, Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued. They romp through the grass, without even a care, Until one day they start, and sniff at the air. All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back. Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack. For just at that instant, their eyes have met; Together again, both person and pet. So they run to each other, these friends from long past, The time of their parting is over at last. The sadness they felt while they were apart, Has turned into joy once more in each heart. They embrace with a love that will last forever, And then, side-by-side, they cross overů together.
