So you've seen the beautiful, headstrong breed known as the Shiba Inu. You've examined your living situation and decided you are ready to open your home to a Shiba Inu.
Here is a brief summary of SIRA's adoption process. For more detailed information please visit our website.
For questions about the adoption process please email email@example.com.
Shiba Inu Rescue Association (SIRA) is a division of Americas Baseji Rescue, a 501c3 non-profit organization.
SIRA is an all volunteer organization dedicated to saving abandoned, neglected and abused Shiba Inu, Shiba mixes and other primitive breeds from commercial breeders, shelters and owners. We evaluate each dog for temperament and place them in nurturing foster homes where their needs, medical and otherwise, are addressed in order to prepare them to be placed in thoroughly screened, loving, lifelong forever homes. SIRA also works to educate the public on the Shiba Inu breed in addition to the importance of responsible pet ownership including spaying/neutering, dog training and obtaining a dog from a reputable breeder or rescue group.
SIRA is a licensed through the Illinois Department of Agriculture as an animal rescue. We are recognized as a not-for-profit corporation in the State of Illinois, and also, as a division of Americas Basenji Rescue, SIRA is recognized as a 501c3 non-profit organization.
SIRA does not have a shelter. We are a network of volunteers and all dogs are fostered in loving homes. Currently the majority of our volunteers are in Chicago, IL and the surrounding suburbs. We also have volunteers in Indiana, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri.
We host monthly meetups through Chicago Area Shiba Inu Meetup and SIRA foster dogs frequently attend these play dates. This is an excellent opportunity for you to meet multiple foster dogs in one place. For more information please visit the meetup website http://www.meetup.com/Chicago-Area-Shiba-Inu-Meetup/.
**Please note, in order to attend meetups you must either currently own a Shiba Inu or Shiba Inu mix OR have an approved adoption application on file with SIRA**
