About Us

Foster homes needed!  Our ability to save lives is dependent on compassionate individuals in our community who can open their hearts and homes to cats and kittens in need.  Fostering is truly an amazing experience!  If you or someone you know is interested in fostering, please contact us at 773.203.0215.  Chicago Cat Rescue provides all necessary medical care for our cats, plus food if need be . A foster parent provides the love, care and home! (pretty good gig, huh?)

Did You Know?  Black cats and dogs have the lowest adoption rates and highest euthanasia rates?   If you are considering adopting a cat or kitten, PLEASE consider adopting a black one.  In addition to saving a life, you will be providing a home for a cat that gets overlooked due to its color.

Adopting A Friend

Why adopt from a foster home based organization?  Because our cats and kittens are being cared for in someone's home, we feel we truly know our animals. We rely on our foster families to tell us about the personalities of the cats in their care. Is the cat shy or outgoing? Playful or laid back? High energy or more sedentary? We learn so much about them! Armed with that knowledge, we feel we are uniquely able to help you find your soul kitty (or soul kittens!).

When you visit cats in a shelter, they generally come running to the front of the cage, rubbing and sticking their paws out at you. You think to yourself, "They're so people friendly and cuddly!". Oftentimes, once the cat/kitten is comfortable in your home, their "real" personality is not as you thought it was. When they are kept in cages, they are desperate for interaction, so they beckon you with their meows and paws. They get precious little human contact, and are longing to be out of the cage, so they are more clingy/cuddly in that environment than they will be once they are comfortable in their new home.

When you visit our cats and kittens, they are already in a home, so you get a better idea about their true personality, not the deperate actions of a bored and lonely cat, locked in a cage. You get to talk to the foster parent/s about the cat and learn so much more about what to expect.

Our adoption process. In an effort to find the best home for the cats and kittens in our care, and the best match for you and your family, we have a thorough adoption  process. We are dedicated to the ideal of a "forever home" for our cats, so we do the best we can to try to make that happen. That means we don't do "same day adoptions". It's a process that we feel helps adopters find the right cats or kittens so they are, indeed, "forever homes".

Step 1 - Call or email us to learn about cat or kitten whose has caught your fancy online.  We look forward to talking to you!   Our conversations are a great way to learn about the qualities in a pet that are important to you, as well as learn something about your home and lifestyle.  We do our best to ensure the cat or kitten of interest is a great match for you - and vice versa!

Step 2 - We'll put you directly in touch with the foster parent, so that you can schedule a time to meet the cat of interest.  All of our foster homes are in Chicago, to ensure ease of access to all of our foster homes.

Step 3 - When you've found the cat of your dreams, you will be asked to complete our adoption application and adoption contract.  A volunteer from Chicago Cat Rescue will process your application (usually within 2-3 business days).  When your application is approved, and you have all the vital supplies to care for your new family member, your cat will be ready to come home!

A unique aspect to Chicago Cat Rescue is that when you adopt from us, you not only gain the unconditional love of your new cat, you also gain the support of a group of caring individuals who are committed to you and your new companion's health & happiness - indefinitely!

Prior to adoption, all of Chicago Cat Rescue's cats and kittens have been tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, spayed/neutered, dewormed, have received any necessary vaccinations, and are micro-chipped.   Our adoption fee is $125.00 per cat, to help defray our costs.
