PLEASE CALL ME AFTER READING BELOW. 708=025-7650 HELP PLEASE LAURA VILLARREAL FOUNDR AND PRESIDENT The S.A.F.E. Project (Saving Animals From Euthanasia) PRESIDENT LAURA VILLARREAL 708-560-8037 16731 LE CLAIRE AVE Oak Forest, IL 60452 www.mapblast.com for directions The mission of this group is unusual and different than other rescues. We provide a service where other rescues leave off. Where most rescues and shelters must euthanize to keep from going broke -because of keeping adoption fees down to be competitive- we focus on fundraising to support their high cost of medical care that would normally be the cause for Euthanisation in other groups. We seek to protect any animal that is destined to be destroyed because of lack of education of rural shelters or other rescues who cannot afford the necessary health care to cover their medical bills. We strive to fundraise to provide the ability to medically treat, provide a safe haven, and any other necessary treatment during rehabilitation or to just assist in its natural death in a warm safe environment instead of on a wet cement floor of a kennel or under a bush if the animal is beyond help. Whether these animals are domestic, domestic wildlife, or wildlife, injured, abused or orphaned. Our mission is to insure them the ability to be rehabilitated in the proper environment, be it a new home, foster home or released into natural habitat. Please pray for us, as we are in need of strength to keep going. Many of our volunteers are very tired after all our Katrina rescues and many have left. Those who have remained are very overworked and need Gods touch to keep going. We are in desperate need of foster homes right now. If you feel you can share your home with one of our babies contact LAURA VILLARREAL @ 708-560-8037

WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF VOLUNTEERS

Fundraising Ideas -

We are in need of someone who is talented in the area of fundraising ideas that we can earn money from. I say that half jokingly because i have discovered another hidden talent I DO NOT HAVE and that is I SUCK AT SALES AND FUNDRAISING. We just had a fundraiser that I invested several hundred dollars "out of pocket" for materials to make crafts and we only , through no fault of the fundraising people, only made 170.00 so we were in the hole. We are looking for someone who is creative and knowledgable at cost effective ways to bring in donations and then share them with the group.

Fundraising Organizer -

We are looking for people to organize any of our fundraising efforts. I would like to see several people do this so each person has one event to focus on and then when that is over and they are not too wiped out they can volunteer for another one. Responsibilities would be to find out who is going to be volunteering. How many people do you need? What date and time it is to be held? What supplies are needed. Where is the exact location and get directions out to the volunteers, the whole nine yards. A lot of our listed volunteers are willing and able to help out but we never call and ask them to help out so that would also be a part of the job is finding out who would be willing to work each fundraiser and on what day and for how long etc.

Fundraising Volunteer -

Exactly that. Down and Dirty The "worker bee" If you would like to be called on occasion to help run a fundraiser and how much time you are interested in giving without loosing your mind.

Petco Support -

Since we went from PetSmart to Petco located in Homewood at 179th and Halstead Helene has been bringing all the dogs on our scheduled days up there and back all alone and she is now in need of someone to be available anytime they can be to work with her. We need different kinds of help up there. Because they do not provide a big enough space for our cats and kittens, only a few cats can be kept up there and Strays In The Garden presently has the space occupied so our felines are not getting enough exposure to the public and their foster mom Tomi is not available to go up there every Saturday when we are scheduled. One need is someone to pick up the kitties in Oak Forest and bring them up to Petco and help find them homes. We also need people to help set up our tables etc and be available to speak to the public and answer questions on our adoptions or a specific animal.

Local Transporter -

Sometimes very rarely we need someone to meet our out of state transporters localy at a gas station or Denny's as they come through town and drop off our animals we are rescuing. We share the same transporters with other rescues so you have to make sure we are receiving the correct animals and that they are coming in with proper medical records if they have any and any information they have such as names, signs of illness etc and then get them to their foster homes and the information relayed. Usually Helene handles this alone but on occasion she has a doctors appointment etc and has no control over when the babies come in.

Artist -

We need someone to be available to make our signs for upcomming events, sign up sheets for our already in place fundraisers etc. Someone who can help with the newsletter and any educational materials and handouts we provide for wiildlife students and the public.

Donations -

We are looking for someone who can be a detective! There are so many programs out there that offer help to groups like us but we do not have the time to make the phone calls, write the letters, and pick up any donations offered.

Public Relations -

We are looking for someone who is interested in getting our name out so people know where we are now adopting out of by using all forms of media.

Education -

Someone who can do research and make up handouts for wildlife and domestic animals

Volunteer Coordinator -

Someone who can organize and keep moral up with our volunteers. Plan activities etc. And deal with my absolutely ridiculous and endless demands.

Wildlife Feeders -

every year from March to September we are in need of people to hand and bottle feed baby Raccoons, Squirrels,Opossums and Bunnies. Mon-Fri at 7 PM in Oak Forest, IL

Wildlife Education Classes- Looking for someone to teach volunteers classes during the off season to get ready to earn their State Wildlife License. Materials are provided for you.

Animal Groomer (non proffesional) -

Our animals come in off the road kinda stinky and need some love and "bubbles" to get freshened up for PetCo. They are located in the Oak Forest area in foster homes.

Newsletter Organizer -

Work on collecting and writing articles to all our adopters via email or on hardcopy

WE ARE VERY DIFFERENT - HERES WHY

PLEASE STOP AND READ THIS BEFORE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH OUR ANIMALS. WE ARE DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER RESCUE YOU HAVE EVER DEALT WITH AND WE WOULD LIKE TO EXPLAIN WHY.

SHELTER: An establishment that houses and feeds stray animals.

RESCUE: A team that rescues animals, usually from confinement, slavery or abuse; while providing whatever is necessary to save the animal and extend and improve its quality of life.

We are one of the few non-profit animal rescues in the country that:

-Does not put down animals if they are sick.
-Does not put down animals that may incure a large vet bill in order to save money.
-Does not put down animals if they are not adoptable or profitable.
-DOES pay out of pocket when fundraising does not cover our vet bills.

If you asked these questions of many other shelters or rescues, they cannot afford to do these things. It is not their fault but we are trying to do things in a different way. OUR MISSION STATEMENT DECLARES WE BELIEVE EVERY ANIMAL DESERVES A CHANCE AT LIFE NO MATTER WHAT. WHERE DO OUR ANIMALS COME FROM?

VOLUNTEERS WHO CALL US FROM KILL SHELTERS

-OWNER GIVE UPS
-HURRICANES
-FLOODS
-PUPPY MILLS
-ANIMAL ABUSE CASES

Many of our animals arrive into our arms in their last stages of life, sometimes hours before they are scheduled to be euthanized.

INSTEAD OF ALLOWING THEM TO DIE ALONE ON A COLD KENNEL FLOOR OR OUTSIDE UNDER A BUSH, OUR DEDICATED STAFF HAVE CHOSEN TO FACE DEATH DAILY BY TAKING THEM IN AND VOLUNTEERING FOR AROUND THE CLOCK SHIFTS TO INSURE THEIR LAST MOMENTS ARE PAINFREE AND COMFORTABLE AS THEY LEAVE FOR THE RAINBOW BRIDGE BUT THEY NEVER DIE ALONE.

When we do get in animals from hurricanes, floods, puppy mills or animals abuse, many have been found after days of being on their own under horrendous circumstances. The animals that we lied about and said that they came in from hurricane Katrina were actually animals that were vacated from other shelters to make room for the real incoming hurricane animal victims. Most of these animals come in so under fed, abused, neglected, sick and in some cases, ALL OF THE ABOVE. But we take in animals REGARDLESS OF THEIR HEALTH STATUS.

Sometimes we need to re-train them completely. The most important (and, in many instances, the most difficult) lesson being that people are not the enemy.
Other animals may be recovering from a treatable or managable illness that may require them to be on medications for weeks. We always provide adopters with a copy of their new pets medical history, medications and instructions from our veternarian.
IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT DISTURBS OR INTIMIDATES YOU, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT US WITH YOUR QUESTIONS

THE S.A.F.E. PROJECT WAS CREATED TO SERVE THE ANIMAL POPULATION AFTER YEARS OF US VOLUNTEERING WITH OTHER GROUPS THAT WERE FORCED TO PUT DOWN INNOCENT ANIMALS DUE TO EXPENSIVE MEDICAL CARE THAT THEIR CITY CAN NOT AFFORD.
These are just a few reasons we work so hard for our fundraising. So if we approach you for a donation, raffle tickets or are selling products, PLEASE KNOW WE DO NOT WISH TO BOTHER YOU BUT ARE VERY PASSIONATE IN RAISING THE MONEY WE NEED TO SAVE THESE ANIMALS
It is with this in mind that allows us to tell you that we are not only a no-kill shelter, but also a rehabilitation rescue for the hopeless and forgotten.

So if you are looking for that 'perfect' animal, you may not find one here. However, we feel that they are all perfect and perfectly lovable with all their flaws. It isn't their fault for they did not choose their previous owners. We have many animals which we have deemed unadoptable, so we find them homes within our group to allow them a safe place to live out the rest of their lives.

WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MORE BRAVE AND SELFLESS VOLUNTEERS TO HELP US. ANYONE WOULD BE BETTER THEN HELENE.. WE WILL TAKE WHATEVER TALENT YOU HAVE AND ANY AND AS MUCH TIME YOU CAN. I GUARANTEE WE CAN FIND A HOME FOR YOU IN ONE OF OUR AREAS OF WORK. CAT CUDDLER, PUPPY GROOMING, CAGE CLEANING, FUNDRAISING, ADOPTIONS, FOSTER CARE, RETRAINING EMOTIONALY DAMAGED ANIMALS, UNTRAINED ANIMALS AND CRAFTERS.
