In April 2010, the Kankakee County Humane Foundation (KCHF) was formed by the merging of the Kankakee County Animal Foundation (KCAF) and Animal Haven of the Kankakee County Humane Society. KCHF is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, does not receive any tax money, and is entirely dependent upon memberships and donations.
Since 1963, the Kankakee County Humane Society has served the community as a No-Kill animal shelter. Relying on a system of foster homes, the Kankakee County Animal Foundation has been in existence since 1995, providing low-cost spay/neuter services, humane rescues, and animal adoption services.
Our combined resources, facilities, and volunteers will ensure that the work of rescuing animals and finding new loving homes for them will continue to be our highest priority.
The KCHF shelter is staffed daily to maintain appropriate service levels for the animals and those wishing to adopt them. The accommodations for the animals waiting to find their forever home have undergone many changes over the years. Where there was once room for only twelve animals, there are now accommodations for 24 cats and 24 dogs, including an addition that houses ten large dogs with corresponding 12" outdoor exercise runs, and a fenced in one acre exercise area.
Thank you for helping us care for the animals of this community for nearly 45 years! We could not do it without you! Thank you for your continued generosity & willingness to help!
Animals 5-years-old and over have a 25% discount on their adoption fee.
