Dog of the Month

* * *ALTO* *

My name is Alto and I can be a bit shy but let me tell you about myself. I am a husky mix born in February of 2014. People tell me I am a perfect size, as I weigh around 32 pounds. I am looking for a family who will take a bit of extra time with a very shy guy like me, and the rewards will be huge! I would be the most devoted best friend you could ask for! Since I came to the shelter, I've started to come out of my shell a little and I've discovered that I love to play with other friendly dogs! (Just check out my video...I do this cute little hoppy thing :o) I was raised with young children in the house and was great with them. I always keep my kennel clean, am good on a leash, love to play with people and go on runs. I can even keep myself very occupied by playing with my toys! I am up to date on shots, neutered, and micro-chipped.

These three adorable little beagle babies are only about 12 weeks old (as of end-Jan, 2015). They are all males, and the pics are a little fuzzy because they don't sit still for very long right now! So if you are interested in filling your home and heart with the pitter patter of little paws, come on out to see them! They would love to keep you company and make you smile. All three of these little guys are neutered, micro-chipped and current on all their shots. Call the shelter at 309.246.4275 so we can tell you more about them!

* * * * * Baby John * * * *
Born: Feb. 2007. Not exactly a kitten anymore, but this guy still is a kitten at heart! This personable young fella was found outside of Metamora, IL. He is a fun loving fella with a zest for life. He loves to play and meet new people. Sure to be the "joy of some lucky person's life" for years to come! I gave him a bath and he did very well and should fit well into any household that doesn't have younger children (he can play a bit rough)And does this fella ever need a home to play in! He went to Petsmart and reached out to everyone and several asked to pet him and he enjoyed it so much and loved the attention. The only thing he doesn't care for is being put into a carrier--so he might be a bit out of sorts the 1st day in his new home. Will you be the one to give this loving fella the good life he deserves?.

* * * PHILLIP * * *
Phillip has a very handsome face - unusual look with close set eyes. He is a yellow to orange tabby. Born in March of 2008. He loves to run and play with his kitty buddies. He will make a great addition to any household.

If you are coming from the E Peoria side of the river: go Rt. 116 toward Metamora and turn left on Rt. 26 (before the gas station at the bottom of the hill) You will go through Spring Bay. Follow this 2 lane road about 20 miles. ( 5 mins. past the railroad tracks)We are on the left side of the road. When you see the large gray barn-turn your left turn signal on as you are here.

Who We Are

The A.R.K. (Animal Recycling Kennel) is a non-profit group of caring individuals who help rescue homeless animals in the Marshall County and surrounding areas. The A.R.K. is made up entirely of volunteers. All donations received are used to care for these animals. They are waiting for someone to come along and adopt them to care and love them the rest of their lives. We are currently working to complete construction on our shelter. A.R.K. is also trying to educate people on the importance of having their pets spayed and neutered. Here at the A.R.K. we find good loving indoor homes for these homeless animals. Our adoption fee for puppies/dogs is 200.00 - 275.00. Most mixed breed dogs/puppies range from 200.00- 225.00, purebred dogs from 250.00-275.00, which includes altering, parvo distemper and bordatella vaccinations, worming, a chip and a rabies shot and heartworm test for dogs of sufficient age. Our adoption fee for cats is 100.00 /$125 for purebreds which includes altering, FIP/FIV testing, a chip and relevant shots.

Volunteering and Donations

*** VOLUNTEERS - CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS *** Are you an animal lover that has some free time that you could volunteer with us? All of us ,here at The Ark, are volunteers.(no paid staff) We are always in need of volunteers-mornings are especially busy. We are getting the pet rooms cleaned, feeding done, etc. and are always in need of help with the cats. There are always floors to clean, laundry to be done, & lots of odds & ends. There are things to be done outside the shelter, too : fundraisers, pets are taken to Petsmarts, we could really use some "donated printing services", to name a few. Very rewarding. Remember, we are a no kill shelter so the animals you see today, will still be with us until they find a home!

We are always in need of funds to complete the projects that still need to be done. Our monies come from adoptions, donations, fundraisers (some shelters get city funding, Humane Society funding,monies from rabies tags, fines,etc) Any donations can be mailed to The Ark ,or can be sent through paypal : the,or given in person if you'd like to visit. In addition to money, we are always in need of the following items: regular cat litter, canned & dry pet food ,dog & cat toys & treats, blankets-bedspreads-rugs & pet beds. a large shop vac,& even laundry soap, bleach and paper towels. Our pets thank you! It would be great if someone (or company) would be able to donate 1 of the large "walk on" scales and we could also use grooming clippers & such. We hope to eventually get a bathing tub setup. ** Do you have aluminum cans sitting around? Bring them to the ark-they all add up to extra funds to help our pets --every bit helps. There is a small fenced in area next to the kitchen for the cans.
