Our Mission

Check out our website at apl-shelter.org for all of our upcoming events and current information.

The Animal Protective League is a 501(c) organization and operates both an animal shelter with adoption center and a high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic.  We are the regional leaders in ending the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets!  Our limited admission shelter is unique in that we prioritize sick, injured, and abandoned animals.  We also take in animals that are slated for euthanasia from local area animal control agencies and give them a second chance at life.

Our spay/neuter clinic offers affordable spay/neuter services for members of the public, as well as other humane groups within a 90 mile radius.  Costs for surgery are $65 for a dog spay/neuter; $45 for a male

Adoption Policy

We have plenty of dogs and cats just waiting to meet you!  Our adoption center is open from Noon to 5pm every day.  If you see an animal on Petfinder please feel free to call our shelter at 217-544-PETS (7387) to inquire if the animal is at the shelter or in one of our foster homes.  There is a simple application process that you will need to complete prior to approval for adoption.

Although we occasionally run adoption specials, our regular adoption fees for cats are $50 or two for $65.  Our pricing on dogs is variable.  Every animal has been spayed or neutered, microchipped, tested for heartworms or FeLV/FIV, and is current on all vaccines.  That’s over a $350 value!
