NEW DATE - Run with the Big Dogs Moves to April, Sponsors Wanted!
The Friends of the Pocatello Animal Shelter's 20th Annual Run with the Big Dogs will be held April 22 this year. Previously, the event had been held in the fall, and close to the date of the popular Splash Dance for Dogs at the Ross Park Aquatic Complex.
We'd like to thank The Friends of the Pocatello Animal Shelter for their continued support of the Shelter and its mission. Run with the Big Dogs is an important event for both of us, said Kim Velman, Volunteer Coordinator. "Friends is changing the date, because participants have been concerned that they felt they had to choose between one event or the other. We want as many people and dogs as possible to take part in the fun of both events."With the change in date, the group is now in search of sponsors and vendors for the event. Interested businesses and organizations can contact Kim Velman at 208-234-6157 or via email at email@example.com. Katie's Dog Park
Our Dog Park is Open!
This half-acre park features two separate play areas with one meant for large, active, and energetic dogs and another for smaller dogs or those that are a little more leisurely in their play. Other amenities include two water fountains, benches, a shade pergola, and most importantly, the entire park is fenced in so dogs are free to run off leash!
"Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year. But when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in." —Unknown
The Pocatello Shelter has a Volunteer Program that may fit your needs and we're looking for your help! Your help will ensure our animals receive more interaction with humans as well as maintain and improve the social skills the animal come to us with. Your time will definitely make a difference for that one animal that you spend time with.
There are many ways to help out, including: working with the dogs on the property, working with the cats in the adoptable cat room, bathing/minor grooming of the animals, cleaning kennels, helping out in the office, greeting and guiding those who come to the shelter, helping with fundraisers and outreach events, as well as, working on projects from your home.
If you are 18 years or older and would like more information about volunteering please contact the Pocatello Animal Shelter to learn more.
Our next Volunteer Orientation will be Saturday, February 25th at 10:00am and will last approx. 1½ hours.
