About Us

Adopting A Friend

Members of the public may visit the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center during open hours to choose an animal that is available for adoption.  All occupants in the residence must visit the animal to ensure a good match is made.  Once a specific animal has been decided upon, an application for adoption must be completed and submitted to Center staff.  If you are looking for a dog and already have one in your home, staff will ask that you bring your canine companion for an introduction with your chosen Center dog prior to the application being approved.

Generally application take at minimum 24 hours to process.  You will be asked to think about your adoption decision overnight and call back the following morning to advise us of your final decision.  Once the staff has approved your application to adopt, we will call you and set up an appointment to have you pick up your new animal.

Please note that the animals represented on our Petfinder page may not reflect all the animals currently at the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center.  Adoptable animals are also listed on our website, www.icanimalcenter.org.  Additionally, you may call us at (319) 356-5295 extension 7 and inquire about the variety and types of animals we currently have available.
