Our Pet List

Donate a Bed We use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. If you would like to donate a bed to us, click here.

Effective January 1st, 2011, there are a few changes in the works here at Muscatine Humane Society. We have new hours and some new procedures, but mostly we STILL have a great selection of adoptable pets. All adoptable animals have been spayed or neutered and examined by our Veterinarian, as well as updated on vaccines for preventative diseases. Please consider giving a shelter pet a "forever" home!

Please, stop in and see our selection.

Who We Are

The home of the Muscatine Humane Society is the Nancy E. Kent Animal Shelter, located at 920 South Houser Street in Muscatine, Iowa. The entire property, shelter building, and its contents were graciously donated by Nancy E. Kent. It opened in July of 1996. The shelter capacity is approximately 100 animals. We have 45 large chain link kennels and 50 state-of-the-art cat cages. We are a non-profit organization and run entirely on donations. It is our goal and hope to provide that all important "second chance" for adoptable pets. Also located on our property is the Canine Activity Center of Muscatine, otherwise known as the CACM. This building houses many different events, as well as dog obedience and agility classes, throughout the year. Built partially as a "project" by our dedicated volunteers and local business people, it is one of the finest examples of a training building in the Midwest. You are welcome to visit that building's training schedule at

Our Mission

The mission of the Muscatine Humane Society is to educate the public on the importance of and dire necessity to spay and neuter their animals to prevent the needless suffering that follows pet overpopulation! Concurrently, the Society provides a safe haven for lost or abandoned animals until their owners or new homes can be obtained.

Adopting a Friend

Our hours are:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Closed on Wednesday, Sunday, and Holidays.

Adoption fees:

Previously altered dogs - $80.00
Dogs whose alteration surgery cost was covered by the shelter - $135-$150
Altered cats - $65.00 for kittens, $32.50 for cats 1+ years old
Adoption fees help cover the cost of the spay or neuter surgery for non-altered animals, as well as the vaccines we have given.
All animals are vaccinated against contagious diseases, wormed, and temperament tested prior to being offered for adoption. Dogs who are old enough for a heartworm check will also be tested for heartworm prior to adoption.
Pre-adoption applications are required (submitted AND approved) before we can allow any visiting with cats and dogs, as we are dedicated to match pets with owners that will provide them with a happy home for the duration of their lives.
****We reserve the right to deny anyone the adoption of a pet****
