2015 started off rough for Joey’s Feline Friends with lower than expected donations and some issues at our shelter in Kaneohe, but thanks to our incredible supporters and volunteers, we saw some steady improvement and finished the year on a pretty good note. Now we just have to keep that momentum going because we still have lots of wonderful cats waiting for their forever homes!
With close to 300 adoptions last year, you’d think we had room to spare, but unfortunately the shelter is still full. While we are not actively taking in any new "residents", we receive previously adopted cats back every week. These have been turned into Hawaiian Humane Society, abandoned, or just passed on to someone else and eventually wind up here. This is one of the reasons we keep the microchip information in our name; so they will find their way back to us. The returns are primarily the result of families leaving the island without their cats. There are many people within our community who are willing to help owners figure out the complexities of moving with animals. Please reach out to us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/joeysfelinefriends/) for advice and suggestions. Remember your cats and dogs are a lifetime member of your family. Please don't leave them behind when you move.
Our vet bill continues to be our largest expense. While our vet has worked with us by applying discounts, because we are a "rescue", many of our visits are emergencies, which incur large expenses. And, in the spirit of our mission as a no-kill shelter, we continue to make every effort to address treatable illnesses before making the decision to humanely euthanize.
So what does this all mean? It means that we need your continued financial support. We've helped thousands over the years, but cats are still here, and they still need our care. We ask that you make a donation today to ensure that we can continue our work and dedication. Your gift is extremely important to Joey's Feline Friends because it provides resources that make an immediate impact.
You can make a cash donation via the hyperlink above or at our website: http://www.joeysfelinefriends.net/donate.html. The shelter purchases its food from Costco along with other supplies (trash bags, paper towels, dish and laundry soap, bleach, etc.), so we also welcome gift cards from Costco (and it’s still tax deductible as a donation!) Making a donation of $25, $50 or $100 can make a huge difference!
Material donations are also always welcomed. Things we currently need are:
Please also consider purchasing some food or other needs off our Amazon Wish List.
Thank you so much!
Founded in 1997 by Tedra Villaroz, Joey’s Feline Friends is a privately owned, non-profit, no-kill shelter dedicated to the care of homeless, abused and physically challenged animals.
Receiving its non-profit status in 1998, Joey’s operates entirely on the generosity of animal lovers like you...! ALL money goes directly to the care of the animals; which includes food, supplies, shelter maintenance, health care and medical bills. Any and all monetary donations are greatly appreciated by the cats and kitties under our care AND are tax deductible. The average cost it takes to care for just one of our cats (not including any medical complications that may arise) is $30.00 per month, so, your donation is very important to us and the lives of each of the cats in our care.
Since our inception, we have provided services to approximately 3,500 cats, provided shelter for over 3,000 cats, and found homes for approximately 300 cats every year (but there are always many more who need homes!). We have also provided quality care for hundreds of terminally ill cats, and facilitated spay/neuter services for colony and shelter cats. We assist in rescues and provide advice to those seeking information regarding special-needs cats, behavioral problems, and many other issues.
DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS APPRECIATED...! We rely entirely upon donations and the commitment of loving volunteers. We appreciate any help you can provide; whether you have 1 hour a day, week, month or more, Joey’s can use whatever you have to offer. We need help with shelter maintenance, public relations, fund-raising, web-maintenance and, as always, cat socializing, petting and fostering.
We currently do adoptions out of the Pearl City Petco on Saturdays from 1 - 6 pm and Sundays from 1 -4 pm.
Our shelter is located in Kaneohe. Currently, we do not have a sufficient number of volunteers to support regular visiting hours. However, please contact us if you'd like to make an appointment to meet any of the cats at the shelter.
We are currently looking for more volunteers to help out at the shelter and Petco. Please contact us for more information or email firstname.lastname@example.org
If you contact us via petfinder, please remember to include your contact information as Petfinder masks your email address so we cannot see it.
