OUR PET LIST

       Allister

/ Special, special, special. I am probably the most special guy here right now. SO much history for only having been on the radar of the Humane Society of South Brevard for a short time, but let me try and share in as few words as possible. A "stray" found in Melbourne (waaay to friendly and already neutered so no way was I really homeless), I was taken to one of the other shelters in our area. They saw I was an older guy and I also happened to have a hernia. I know, I know. How does a cat get a hernia? No idea. Anyway, they had the vet check me out, do a little hernia repair, and voila-ready for adoption. But it was also determined that I am FIV positive. I am healing well from my surgery and am otherwise healthy-if you are familiar with this feline immunodeficiency virus, you know I can have a fine life, obviously have, and really deserve some super final retirement years. It will be hard to find-near impossible-but I am hoping for someone who wants a calm, older cat who either only wants one cat or has another FIV kitty in residence. Please, give me a chance-gosh knows I need one. I am sweet, sweet, sweet, and think all I need is a lap and someone to talk to me. I would be a happy tabby. Come by to meet me-we are open Wednesday through Sunday and are located just off US1 near the Pineda Causeway in Melbourne. I could be the great addition you have been looking to add to your family. And it is a really good idea to bring a carrier when you come. If you choose and are approved, you might take me home the same day!

WHO WE ARE

The Humane Society of South Brevard is an independently-run, non-profit, no-kill animal shelter. We DO NOT euthanize ANY animal unless their quality of life would suffer due to major medical problems. Our cats are free to roam inside our facility. We always strive to provide individual attention to all of our animals until they can be placed in caring, loving, lifetime homes. We have provided this service since 1978. In the unlikely event you find the pet you have adopted does not quite fit into your family, we will always take our cats back.
We take in cats on a pre-arranged basis only. Since we are a no kill shelter we do not "make room" for new cats. As we adopt and have space available we take in more.

BEQUESTS

We DO NOT receive any federal, state or county funding. With only several hundred members, dues do not come close to covering what we spend on the animals. Fortunately, several members have left bequests to our Society and this has enabled us to continue our great work. Please remember the animals when you prepare your will. We have a generous donation offer from a local attorney who specializes in wills and trusts. Amy Van Fossen can plan your living will and trust and will donate 5% of your total costs to us! You may reach her at 321-345-5945. And remember, there are organizations with similar names, so please be specific in naming the Humane Society of South Brevard, Inc. We depend solely on your kindness.

And now to interrupt your reading with a Happy Tail...

I am a girl whose fortune has changed! My name is Sybil and I had been at the Humane Society for a long, long time. So sweet and pretty, everyone was sure I would find a home. But other paws came and went...and here I stayed. Then I developed an allergy on my skin-something that would go away once I found a home, but here it was hard to manage. Although still pretty, it seemed that I was overlooked even more. One day a very nice lady came in to adopt a cat. I greeted her-just like I used to do when I still had hope of finding a home. She looked past my not so pretty fur and saw my loving, quiet soul-and knew. This wonderful person knew that not many people would recognize the beautiful little girl I am and that I may have only this one chance to have a forever home. And so she adopted me. This is the kind of story that makes everyone have hope for all the tails here-we can all be Happy Tails if only the right person would come in and make it the very best story for us all.

SPECIAL NOTES

ADOPTING A FRIEND

We currently have many wonderful cats available for adoption. The fee is $75.00. This fee includes feline leukemia and FIV tests, microchip, spaying or neutering, rabies and feline distemper vaccines, and deworming. WE DO NOT adopt to homes that declaw or let their cats outside. It is against the law in Brevard Co. for your cat to run loose and of course there are many dangerous things they can get into outdoors.

FOSTER PROGRAM

We also have a foster program to help with our unadoptable cats, for a small fee of $8.00 per month we will send you a picture and bio of the cat of your choice and of course you can come and visit anytime. This helps defray the cost of caring for these cats that will spend their lives with us.
