Who We Are
Miami Pets Alive! is a coalition of citizens and organizations dedicated to alleviating the suffering and putting an end to the unnecessary killing of adoptable companion animals. Our ultimate goal is to make Miami-Dade County a "NO KILL" community. This is not merely a humane ideal, but a proven reality. It has been shown to be both achievable and cost-effective in other cities and states in the nation. Through accomplishing various short-range goals - AND WITH YOUR HELP - we intend to bring the euthanasia rate of adoptable animals at the local shelters to zero.
Adopting a friend
Are you interested in adopting a loving, forever family member? You've come to the right place!
Please browse through our listings, and when you've decided on the pets that interest you, call or email the person noted on each listing. (We don't have a shelter facility, so all of our pets are in different foster homes.)
Tell that person that you're interested in adopting, and he or she will set up an appointment for you to come and meet the special pet!
When you adopt a rescued pet, you save not one, but TWO, lives! You save and enrich the life of the pet you're adopting, and you make room for another pet's life to be saved and brought into foster care! THANK YOU!
Miami Pets Alive's! primary focus is on targeting the root of the pet overpopulation. We must decrease the number of unwanted animals; therefore, sterilization is our core objective. For this purpose, all available resources are efficiently utilized. As they say in the no-kill movement, “you can never adopt your way out of the problem.” No matter how many animals are rescued or how many are adopted to loving families, there just aren’t enough homes for all of them. Hence, sterilization must take precedence.
Secondly, Miami Pets Alive! concentrates on adoptions, which are essential to building a no-kill community. To increase the number of animals adopted, we have designed and are implementing more creative and proactive ways to market the animals, including innovative adoption events, which, for the most part, include taking the animals to the people... To ensure retention of adopted pets, the adopters are educated on proper care and training.
Last, but not least, the community needs to be educated on the importance of spaying & neutering and responsible pet guardianship. By getting out the crucial message that these animals are suffering and dying by the thousands, we hope to make citizens understand the problem and work together toward a mutually beneficial solution, both for the people and the animals of Miami-Dade County.
