Be Their Voice!
Show Your Support for Abandoned Animals.
On May 5th, you have 24 hours to make a difference on behalf of Friends of Strays Animal Shelter without leaving the comfort of your home. Give Day Tampa Bay is a super-charged 24 hour charitable giving event that supports hundreds of local nonprofits. Friends of Strays hopes to raise much needed funds for medical expenses incurred treating the abandoned animals that find their way to our shelter.
Animals like Sunshine who came to us off the streets with Parvo, Miracle who was abandoned in the Florida heat in such horrific shape even the local Veterinarian was shocked, Oreo who had emergency spay surgery with pyometra and our three heartworm positive dogs that will be in our care for three months while undergoing treatment. Our lifesaving success depends on your support.
Anyone can be a donor and everyone will make a difference. On May 5th from midnight to midnight you can make a difference in the lives of abandoned animals with a minimum donation of $25.

With as many as 100 companion animals to visit at our shelter at any given time, Friends of Strays strives to provide the utmost love and care for every animal that comes through our doors. The Adoption Counselors are proud to work with potential adopters to ensure their new addition is a good match and to provide guidance to help with their transition into a new home. It is our goal to make every match successful and have all of our adopted animals transition into a permanent home successfully. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt from Friends of Strays.
· Prepare for your visit to our shelter
o Complete our online application
§ You can print out the form and bring it with you to the shelter or you can complete the online application that will go directly to the adoptions team.
o We require government issued photo ID
o If you own your home we will verify ownership through online public records.
o Have written consent from your landlord contained in a lease agreement or as an addendum to a lease agreement. Letters from a landlord will not be accepted. We must be able to gain verbal approval to support your lease.
o Talk with all of the members of your family to ensure that you are all in agreement on adding a new family member. We encourage all family members to come to the shelter to help choose your new companion animal.
· Come and visit our adoptable dogs and cats!
o When you come into the shelter we invite you to interact with the dogs and/or cats. The adoptions team will be available to answer questions and give you as much detail as possible on our adoptable animals. Please remember that most of our animals are strays so we have very little information on them prior to their arrival at our shelter. We will do our best to make it the perfect match but the adopters need to commit to working with the companion animal they choose to add to their family.
o If you are adopting one of our dogs we require a home visit which we will make every effort to schedule within 10 days of the adoption approval.
· Bringing Home your New Family Member
o Some of our animals may be able to go home with you the same day. Some of our animals, depending on medical needs, may take one to three days to process. All of our animals that are currently under medical treatment must be seen by our Veterinarian and released medically before leaving for their permanent home.
o Please come prepared with a hard sided carrier for a cat or a leash and collar for a dog. There will be paperwork to sign and a final contract to sign. We only accept credit card or cash payments for the adoption.
o Every adopted animal will go home with a recent medical history and a microchip registration form. We require every adopter to register their animal within 7 days of adoption.
o What is the fee for puppies and adult dogs?
§ For pricing please visit our web site www.friendsofstrays.com
o Make an appointment with your Veterinarian
§ Most of the animals we take in have unknown histories. Therefore, we cannot guarantee the health of any animal adopted from Friends of Strays. Our staff and medical team provides the best possible care and treatment while each animal is at our shelter but their stay is limited and there is a chance that an existing parasite or virus may not become apparent until after they are in their new home.
