A pets’ activity level, size, age, breed and temperament should be considered to determine what pet is best for your lifestyle and household. After spending some time with your potential pet, you will be asked to complete an adoption application, which will be reviewed and approved by our adoption specialist. Our Adoption Specialists will assist you throughout the process and answer any questions you may have. Pets are sterilized before going to their new homes. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, canine heartworm test, feline leukemia test, vaccines, worming, microchip, local vet exam, and informational handouts. Please visit our website for details on adoption fees and policies.
Our mission is to provide humane housing, care, necessary medical services and companionship for homeless companion animals in a comfortable, safe, and clean environment which meets their physical and emotional needs until such time as they can be reunited with their owners, adopted into loving homes, transferred to appropriate rescue groups or other shelters, or other suitable placement is secured, without ever losing sight of our responsibility to ensure the health and safety of our community through our Animal Control Services.
We will be the center of animal welfare, recovery and adoption activity in Flagler County. We will work tirelessly to reduce the numbers of homeless animals in our community through accessible, affordable spay/neuter programs, progressive foster and adoption programs, and coordination and cooperation with other local rescue groups and shelters in our area. We will work until homelessness and abuse are no longer issues within our community and our services are no longer needed. Through our example, work and leadership, we will affect and influence similar activity throughout our region.
FHS is proud to announce that all animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before they are adopted. FHS also offers many valuable services to the community. We offer the following services:

Of course, all of these wonderful services place added demands on the Shelter. You can help in so many ways.
We always appreciate donations—both cash and in kind. The Shelter can always use your old laptop or computer or printer when you upgrade at home or at work. Please check out our Wish List to see if there are any items on it that you could donate to us. You can easily make a one-time or recurring cash donation directly from the website. Recurring donations are particularly easy. For as little as $5 or $10 a month, you can make a generous donation with little or no pain in your wallet. Check it out!
Volunteers are needed to help with the animals. Or, if you’re unable or would prefer not having interaction with the animals, there are so many ways you can help. Become a Greeter, assist with adoptions, work at the Front Desk selling tags or directing people to the area where they can best be helped, help out at the Thrift Store or come in and do some laundry. There are so many opportunities for volunteering; let us tell you how much your time means to the animals.
We are striving to become a facility in which we can all be proud. Join us and become part of this wonderful effort.
