About Us

Adopting A Friend

We require:

1.  an approved application

2.  a vet or animal clinic's reference (to prove current pets are current on vaccinations and are spayed/neutered)

3.  a home ownership verification or a landlord's approval

4.  a home visit (not a white glove test, just a visit to make sure our animals will be safe to come home with you)

Who We Are

Animal Rescue Friends Network Inc. (ARF’N) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit volunteer organization. We strive to rescue stray, unwanted and abandoned animals in Hernando and other counties and place them in safe, responsible, loving, PERMANENT homes. We also network with many other rescue groups and potential adopters through our Facebook page (“Hernando County Animal Control Friends”), and through email and telephone to get many more animals rescued than we can do by ourselves.

ARF’N is strictly foster-based, our volunteers provide food, shelter, care, and compassion to our furry friends until they find a loving home. All animals in our rescue live in a foster home until they are adopted out. This allows them to get socialized, work on obedience and house training. This also allows us to tell a potential adopter if the animals are good with children, other dogs, or other cats.

While in our care, we provide rescued animals with age-appropriate vetting including: vaccinations, spay, neuter, deworming, defleaing, microchip and heartworm prevention. Dogs are also heartworm tested (if old enough).

We also help to educate the community on the value of spaying/neutering in decreasing pet overpopulation, and on responsible animal care. Visit us on Facebook: Animal Rescue Friends Network Inc. and Hernando County Animal Control Friends.

Come Visit Us

We do not have a physical location where we leave our pets for the public to come visit.  We are fostering the pets in our private homes until they find their forever homes. We schedule events at various locations, mostly in Hernando County.  We frequent the PetSmart on US 19 in Spring Hill where we are a registered rescue partner.  Check out our website at www.arfn.org to see where we will be next with our dogs.  (The cats do not travel as well, so they are not always attending adoption events.  If you would like for us to bring a cat for you to meet, please contact us at info@arfn.org.)  If you see a dog or cat on this page that you would like to consider for adoption, please visit our website at www.arfn.org.  Most of our adoption fees are between $150 and $250, depending on age and breed.  We do have a few long-timers who we may offer for a reduced fee.

If we don't have what you are looking for, we do encourage you to also look at the animals at Hernando County Animal Control. Visit us on Facebook: Hernando County Animal Control Friends to see more animals available through the local pound.  We do not have physical custody of the pets on the Hernando County Animal Control Friends page, but we can assist you in navigating the process of visiting and adopting an animal there.  They are a kill shelter, so they do not have a lot of time.  Many of our rescued animals have some from this shelter.  The shelter's info is:
