About Us

Adopting A Friend

If you want to adopt, please come down to our shelter with:

  • All adoptable animals are viewable online, in real time.
  • All adoption questionnaires are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • You are required to meet the animal, outside of the kennel, prior to submitting an adoption questionnaire.
  • Please bring a valid form of photo ID to your counseling session.
  • Children 12 and under who live in the household must meet the animal before an adoption can be finalized.

Cat and dog adoption fees include:

  • Spay/Neuter
  • Age-appropriate vaccinations
  • Microchip
  • Heartworm test (dogs over 6 mos), FIV/FeLV test (cats over 6 mos)
  • 30 day trial of pet health insurance
  • An adoption packet with information to help you start out on the right paw withyour new animal!

Who We Are

We are DC's only open-access shelter. We are always available to help any animal in the District of Columbia. We have cats, dogs, rabbits, and more available for adoption out of our two shelters and also run the Capital Area Spay and Neuter Center.
