The Valley Shore Animal Welfare League is a no kill, non profit shelter that accepts adoptable cats and dogs based on our guidelines and requirements. We then get them ready to be adopted back out into their forever homes. Please also look on our website http://www.valleyshoreanimalwelfareleague.org/ for more information.
Please come visit our dogs and cats and fill out our adoption application. We require any would-be adopters to bring written permission from their landlord or proof of home ownership. We also require a vet reference with the vet name and phone number. Our adoption fee for dogs is $275.00 and cats and kittens are $150.00. All adult animals have been altered and vaccinated for rabies and distemper prior to placement. They are also checked and treated for fleas, ticks, worms and ear mites. Additionally, cats have been feline leukemia and FIV tested and dogs are heartworm tested and started on prevention.
Alarmed at an increasing number of abandoned and homeless dogs and cats, a small group of area residents created the Valley Shore Animal Welfare League in 1972. The League, a non-profit, 501c3 organization, owns and operates a no-kill shelter for a limited number of placeable dogs and cats. Continuing its initial priorities, the League will pay a portion of the cost of spaying or neutering for thier cats/kittens to ensure that they are fixed to limit overpopulation. The League is funded solely by membership dues, fund raising activities, contributions and memorial bequests. A newsletter is mailed periodically to members and friends.
The shelter is located at 647 Horse Hill Road in Westbrook, CT. Shelter Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11am-5pm, and are subject to vet appointments or adjustments. Please call the office before coming by to make an appointment or see if we are available at 860-399-7561.
