Who We Are

We are dog lovers who rescue, rehabilitate and find homes for unwanted, unloved, and abused pets. We do not have a shelter, as all of our dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are thinking about adopting one of our dogs, please fill out an Adoption Application form and we can arrange a visit.

We are a husband-and-wife team who rescue dogs that have been sentenced to death, usually in southern pounds and shelters, for the heinous crimes of being unloved and unwanted. FIVE TO SIX MILLION dogs are executed in the United States every year for the same crimes. We can't save them all - but we operate on the Starfish Principle and do make a difference for the ones who find safety.

Our name "Hole in the Wall Rescue" comes from the canyon in Johnson County, Wyoming where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid hid out when running from the law. Click on this link to visit the real Hole in the Wall.

Our first two rescues were at Christmas, 2004 when we received an email begging for help for a deaf/blind cocker spaniel and his seeing eye/hearing ear companion who were dumped at a rural high-kill shelter in Georgia. We managed to rescue them 45 minutes before they were to be euthanized. They arrived at our home the day before Christmas and were such a strong team that we named the golden cocker Sundance and his faithful companion Butch Cassidy. Butch is a hound/pointer mix and very feminine so her name quickly became "Cassie." She never left Sundance's side and mourned him deeply when we lost him to cancer a short two months later. In honor of their friendship and the need of so many dogs to have a safe place to hide out, we decided that we would be that place...that Hole in the Wall. So we and our gang of dogs, both pet and rescue are The Hole in the Wall Gang.
