Adopting A Friend

Thank you for considering adopting a shelter animal.

Please note that this information may not be current 24/7 as this is updated manually by our volunteers. Please visit our website www.weldcountyhumane.org to view more current information on our available pets. You can always call for up to date info at (970) 506-9550.

When you visit our shelter seeking a pet to adopt we first ask that you complete an Adoption Profile. Once you choose an animal, an adoption counselor will meet with you and the pet you have selected in one of our Get Acquainted Areas for some social time and interaction. These areas provide a quiet and private space to get to know each other better. During the visit, the adoption counselor may discuss any past experiences you or a family member has had with animals, current animals you have in your home, your lifestyle with regard to work schedules and the kinds of activities you enjoy and your housing situation (rent, own, the size of your yard, etc.).

Who We Are

Our mission is to promote the humane treatment of animals through care, advocacy and community education.

Founded in 1961 the Humane Society of Weld County opened the doors to its new facility in September 1999. We are the only 501(c) 3 non-profit animal shelter in Weld County.

This facility provides care and shelter to over 4,000 homeless and unwanted pets in our community each year.

It is a priority of the Humane Society of Weld County to adopt out healthy and behaviorally sound animals to our caring community. Our adoption fees help to offset the cost of evaluation, housing, feeding and medical care for the thousands of animals who need our help every year. It costs the shelter about $25 per day for each animal.

Most of the animals we receive are dogs or cats, but we also take-in rabbits, ferrets, and guinea pigs. Unfortunately, we cannot house injured wildlife or farm animals.

The Humane Society of Weld County is not affiliated with any national animal organization. We are a community supported nonprofit organization and rely solely on donations and special events for funding. We are dedicated to the promotion of humane treatment of animals through care, advocacy, and community education. Together we can make a difference in the lives of homeless and neglected animals. Be a part of the team devoted to helping animals! Check out our employment opportunities page.
