The adoption process begins when you complete and submit the online adoption application, which can be found here: http://coloradoshibainurescue.org/?page_id=55
Once your application is received, it will be reviewed and you will be contacted via email by the Adoption Director. Our job is to find each dog the right home. If your application is not approved for a particular dog, it is not necessarily a reflection on you or your home, but rather a determination that the home is not the right match, based on our knowledge of the dog and the breed.
Once your application is approved, you must submit to a home visit with a rescue volunteer. After the home visit, both you and the volunteer will give feedback on how the visit went.
An adoption decision will be made based on the needs of the individual animal and the success of the home visit. Sometimes we receive multiple applications for a particular dog. If more than one application seems to be a good fit, we will conduct multiple home visits with same animal and select the best one for the dog.
Please note that if you live outside of Colorado's front range, the home visit will look different. Alternate procedures will can be reviewed on our website in the "Home Visit" section of our Adoption page: http://coloradoshibainurescue.org/?page_id=203 We do not adopt outside of the United States nor to Hawaii.
Once an adoption is approved, we will schedule a time to finalize the adoption. We will meet you at a pre-determined location with the dog. You will be asked to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee in full and in cash (the fee for each dog is listed with its profile). If your dog is under 7 years of age, we will sign you up for a professional training class at the same time. The adoption fee is only refundable is the animal is returned to us for health reasons within the first 14 days.
All our dogs are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and up-to-date on appropriate vaccinations. If at any time after adoption, you decide you cannot keep the dog for any reason, the animal must be returned to Colorado Shiba Inu Rescue.
You will receive a copy of the adoption contract, all available medical records and the microchip tag for the dog's collar.
We at Colorado Shiba Inu Rescue are committed to our dogs for life. We happily provide reasonable support and guidance for you and your new family member at any time after adoption.
Colorado Shiba Inu Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to the rescue, training and rehoming of Shiba Inus and Shiba Inu mixes.
We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We do not have a shelter facility where applicants can come look at multiple animals at one time. All of our dogs are lovingly cared for in foster homes along Colorado's front range until adopted into their forever homes.
We do our best to respond to calls and emails in a timely manner, but please keep in mind that we also work full-time and have family commitments. We appreciate your understanding.
