Who We Are
Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue, Inc. was founded in Colorado out of our love and passion for Cocker Spaniels. We believe that a group of dedicated volunteers can make a significant and lasting difference in the lives of unwanted, abandoned, abused or neglected Cocker Spaniels in Colorado and the entire Rocky Mountain Region. RMCR is part of an extensive network of Cocker Spaniel lovers headquartered in metro Denver, but spread across Colorado and neighboring states, who band together for the love of the breed. Our mission is to rescue, foster, train and rehabilitate unwanted Cocker Spaniels that have been mistreated, abused, neglected or abandoned and to place them in permanent, loving homes.
Our directors and volunteers rescue Cocker Spaniels in need from shelters in Colorado where they face euthanasia or owners who cannot care for their pets anymore, as well as from neglect or abandonment situations. Rescued dogs are placed in foster care at the home of prescreened volunteers until a suitable forever home can be found for them. Often foster care volunteers work with the dogs to train or socialize them so they are more adoptable. Before the dogs are made available for adoption they are spayed or neutered and seen by a veterinarian for a health exam to identify and treat any health care issues, and any necessary vaccinations are administered. Our dogs also undergo a behavior evaluation that helps us determine what type of permanent home environment would allow them to thrive and succeed.
RMCR volunteers donate their time and services to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome Cocker Spaniels in need. If you are interested and have the time, please visit our Volunteer page to learn about the many ways that you can help.
You can see our current Cocker Spaniels on our Adoptable Dogs page. Then if you would like to consider adopting and offering one of these adorable, loyal companions a forever home please visit our Adoption Information page to learn about our process and submit an application.
Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable corporation headquartered in Centennial, Colorado and officially incorporated on February 17, 2009. All donations and support are tax deductible.
Adopting a friend
RMCR Adoption Fees:
Puppies up to two-year-old dogs: $350
Adult dogs age two years through eight years: $300
Senior dogs age 9+ years: $150
Your adoption fee includes spaying or neutering, all vaccinations, grooming (if needed), and an overall veterinary exam to identify any potential health issues. We will take care of any known health issues before a dog is adopted out! For puppies that are too young to be spayed or neutered, the new owner is responsible for the surgery and a refundable deposit of $300 (per dog) in addition to the adoption fee will be required as insurance that this procedure will be completed when the puppy is of acceptable age (typically around 6 or 7 months old). Once proof of surgery is presented to Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue, the deposit will be refunded in full.
Adoption Process: The first step in adopting one of our available Cocker Spaniels is to complete and submit our adoption application available on our web site at www.RockyMountainCockerRescue.org. When completing the application keep in mind:
We ask for the names and numbers of two personal references (unrelated to you) so let your references know in advance we'll be calling.
We request the name and number of your veterinarian if you have existing pets, so let your vet know in advance they will hear from us.
If applicable, we ask for the name and number of your landlord, so also let your landlord know we will be calling to verify their approval.
We will contact you after your application is received, which begins the review process.
Once we process your application, we will schedule an interview in your home with one of our adoption coordinators. All members of the family will need to be present, including any current pets.
After the interview, if you are approved for adoption we will call to arrange the next steps, including picking up your new Cocker Spaniel! We cannot guarantee a specific dog will be available from the time of initial inquiry to when the adoption process is completed, but we do our best to match the Cocker Spaniel you are interested in with your family as quickly as possible to ensure a long, happy relationship.
