Who We Are

The Fort Morgan Animal Shelter (formerly known as the Fort Morgan Dog Pound) has been in existence since 1958. It was previously located in the 1400 block of E.Riverview Ave.The first Dog Pound had fourteen councrete kennels inside and six chain link kennels outside. The second one opened in the mid to late 70's with eleven chain link kennels and one isolation kennel. The City was later required to put solid walls between the kennels.

Early in 2002, a developer purchased the property from the City, requiring them to find a new location. Through donations and various City funds, a new building was constructed that was completed and occupied in September of 2002. The new Shelter is 2,400 square feet with twenty-five dog kennels, two isolation kennels for dogs, fourteen cat kennels and one isolation kennel for cats. Code Enfocement personnel employed by the City of Fort Morgan Police Department operate the Shelter.

The City will refund $10 of the adoption fee provided the new owner brings proof of the adoption and proof that the dog was spayed or neutered to City Hall, located at 710 E.Railroad Avenue. The City Clerk will then submit a requisition to have a refund check processed.
