Southern California Dachshund Rescue

Adoptable Dachshunds

Happy Endings

The more foster homes we have, the more dachshunds we can take into rescue. Do you...

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then Southern California Dachshund Rescue (SCDR) needs your help!

Since 1994, SCDR has rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed hundreds of dachshunds. We do not kennel our doxies while they are waiting for homes; we rely on the kindness of our foster parents, and entrust them to take good care of our doxies until they find their forever homes. Most dachshunds will need to be in foster care for one to three weeks, depending upon their condition at intake and the availability of permanent homes.

Qualifications for Fostering

Although we would love to accommodate everyone interested in volunteering, we do have a few basic requirements. Although we do not require our foster parents to currently own dachshunds, they should have some experience with the particular personality and needs of the dachshund. We will provide educational materials and training, as necessary.

Responsibilities of the Foster Family Although wonderful companion animals who deserve loving, safe, forever homes, rescue doxies are far from perfect! Many have been surrendered by their former owners for minor issues such as mild separation anxiety, dominance behavior, mild aggression, barking, puppy behaviors (chewing) or housetraining issues. We believe these issues can be remedied, and we give our foster parents the tools they need to help their charges overcome these problems.

Foster Families are NOT Responsible For Our foster parents will need to have patience and be able to set consistent boundaries. Also, it is beneficial if our foster parents either work from home, are retired or are otherwise home much of the day.

If you are interested in fostering for SCDR, the first step will be for you to fill out an application. Please go to our website for more information.

Since 1994, Southern California Dachshund Rescue has rescued, rehabilitated and placed dachshunds in Orange County, Los Angeles and the Inland Empire. Each of our foster dachshunds resides in a private foster home until we find the perfect forever home. If you are interested in fostering for us, please go to our website for an application.

Because we love our dachshunds and are committed to finding safe, loving, forever homes for them, we screen our applicants thoroughly before approving and adoption. In order to determine which dachshund is most compatible for your lifestyle, our adoption procedures are as follows:

  1. Complete an application, which has been designed to determine which of our rescue dachshunds would best suit your needs and experience. After we review your information, we will contact you with our determination.
  2. Schedule a home check, a time when one of our representatives can visit your home and meet you, the other residents of your home and any other pets that might live with you.
  3. Sign a binding contract that outlines what SCDR requires of its adoptive parents.
In order to be considered as an adopter, you must be 21 years of age or older, have identification showing your present address and, if you rent your home, have the prior knowledge and consent of your landlord, whose contact information you will be asked to provide. You must also be willing and able to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and proper care for a dachshund.

We do require an adoption fee, which helps us cover the boarding, vetting, alteration and vaccination of your new pet. Our adoption fees vary, depending upon the age, health and medical needs of each dachshund.
