About Us

The Santa Maria Valley Humane Society has sterilized more than 30,000 animals in our low cost spay and neuter clinic since 1998. Procedures for healthy cats and dogs are available by appointment Tuesday through Saturday and are performed by fully licensed and experienced veterinarians. At the time of a spay/neuter procedure, low cost vaccinations, deworming, and microchipping can also be administered for an additional fee.  Please contact our office for more information and to schedule appointments. Call (805) 349-3435.

Adopting A Friend

SMVHS operates an adoption program for cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies.

Families or individuals who would like to add a pet to their household are encourage to visit our shelter to see if a cat or dog staying with us will be a good match for their lifestyle and home. If you find there is a pet you would like to bring into your home, potential adopters can fill out an adoption application. We have adoption counselors who help to "matchmake" animals and adopters. Adopters can take their new cat or dog home with them that same day.

By choosing adoption, not only are you finding a loving companion, but you are also saving a life.

Who We Are

Santa Maria Valley Humane Society

We are a "NO KILL" Humane Society and non-profit organization dedicated to placing homeless dogs and cats in permanent, loving homes and assisting in any way we can to remove barriers to responsible pet ownership.

The Santa Maria Valley Humane Society is a private non-profit organization that has been serving the Santa Maria Valley for over 30 years. We are committed to providing shelter and care for homeless cats and dogs. At our facility on West Stowell Road in Santa Maria, we currently have 28 indoor/outdoor dog runs, three community cat rooms and two kitten rooms in Cat Village, which can handle up to 40 cats/kittens.

Our adoption facility accepts pets from people who are no longer able to care for them and we work diligently on finding these pets a new, "forever" home. We also accept animals from other shelters or rescue groups to save lives and relieve overcrowding. Our low cost spay/neuter clinic sterilizes thousand of animals each year, helping to address our community's overpopulation of dogs and cats.

Come Visit Us

We are open to view animals, schedule spay/neuter appointments, make a donation, or to answer your phone calls Monday - Friday 10 am - 5 pm, and Saturdays from 10 - 4 pm. We are closed on most major holidays, but please call to confirm.
