Regular Adoption prices: All dogs and cats that come into the shelter already sterilized are only a $30 adoption fee. All other dogs are $90 and cats are $70. This includes a microchip, spay/neuter, and rabies vaccination. A $10 license fee also applies to dogs that live in the county. And each adopter is given a bag of Science Diet dog or cat food and a coupon booklet. All cats are given a cardboard carrier to go home in. Animals are available for adoption from 10 am - 3:30 pm Monday through Saturday at our shelter. Cats are available at both Petsmart and Petco in Visalia and Petsmart in Porterville during store hours and every Saturday we have a special off-site adoption site with both shelter dogs and cats and foster animals available for adoption. Call or email for more details.
In order to adopt a pet from Tulare County Animal Care and Adoption Services you must first fill out an adoption application. This is to let us know all about you and your pets that you may already have. By doing so, we can make sure that the right pet is placed into your family. After an application has been filled out and you have selected your pet, you will be asked to sign an adoption contract. This contract states that you are willing to care for your new pet and abide by the animal laws. You will also be asked to pay an adoption fee, a spay/neuter deposit and a licensing fee. All this may sound like a lot but it is all a part of the wonderful relationship you will build with your new pet.
Everyday in Tulare County hundreds of homeless animals arrive at shelters lost, hungry and afraid. But even sadder, hundreds of dogs and cats are put to sleep weekly to make space for the new arrivals. Animal shelters are over run with highly adoptable dogs and cats awaiting a second chance.
The sponsorship program allows animals that second chance at finding their forever home. By sponsoring a dog or cat your donation is used for spaying, neutering, vaccinations, micro-chipping, special testing and even the adoption fee. It also offers that animal more time to find it's forever home. There are 4 different levels of sponsorship, each one offering a new family the chance to own a fixed and vaccinated companion pet. Even rescue organizations find sponsored animals to be more appealing, by reducing their costs and speeding up the adoption process; allowing rescues to save more animals in a shorter period of time. Only through spay and neutering will our community be able to help with the pet over population problem.
You can make your donation by check payable to Friends of Tulare County, and in your memo area write the sponsorship name you would like to donate. All donations are tax deductible and you will receive a thank you letter with our non-profit number for your records.
