Our Mission

Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) shelters and cares for the homeless and abandoned animals of Alameda, California, and finds them new forever families.

FAAS has a satellite adoption location at 2228 South Shore in Alameda featuring cats and other small animals, and a thrift store, The Thrifty Kitty, at 1509 Webster in Alameda.

Your support for FAAS helps us save more than 95% of the almost 1,000 homeless pets that come through our doors each year.

Adoption Policy

We ask that everyone in the household meet the potential new furry family member. Come look through the profiles of our residents available at our front counter, and walk a dog or play with a cat. We are always happy to answer questions about a pet and help you decide whether he will be a good fit.

If you rent, you will need to supply a copy of your lease stating you are allowed to have pets. If you own, you will need to supply proof of home ownership.

Each animal leaves with its first set of shots, dewormer and flea treatment. All animals are spayed or neutered and microchipped prior to going home. All dog adopters receive a $200 credit toward canine training. You will also receive a health exam certificate that entitles you to a free "healthy pet" checkup at a local veterinarian clinic.

FAAS located at the North end of Grand St at 1590 Fortmann Way. Adoption hours are noon-4PM Tuesday through Sunday. (We are closed Mondays.)
