Who We Are

The Solano Feral Cat Group is a non-profit, volunteer based organization that works tirelessly to humanely reduce the homeless cat overpopulation in Solano County. To accomplish this, we offer low cost spay/neuter services for cats, outreach programs, free trap and carrier loans, widespread education on the humane treatment of cats, and the benefits of spay/neuter. We serve both feral and pet cats. Our vision is to have a community where no unwanted kittens are born wild on the street, where no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one, and where no adult feral cats go wanting for food, water, and appropriate care and concern. The Solano Feral Cat Group created and operate Solano County's only low cost spay/neuter program for feral and stray cats. The Solano Feral Cat Group created Solano County's first and only feral cat hotline to assist the public with feral cats. Our volunteers have fielded thousands of calls over the past four years and have been recognized by many as the only organization that is willing to actually help the community with their feral cat population. The primary focus of The Solano Feral Cat Group is providing widespread low cost spay/neuter services to PREVENT the birth of unwanted kittens. However, many people contact us AFTER they have found an abandoned mom cat with kittens, or find friendly homeless cats and kittens that have been dumped in feral cat colonies.

We do not have a shelter location. Cats that are listed on this site are in independent, private foster homes, generally with the family that rescued them. Cats listed on our site live freely in foster homes, sleep in bed with their foster families, and are considered a part of the foster family, until a forever home can be found. The foster families know the individual personalities of each kitten and know the best type of environment the cat would do well or not so well in. Our volunteers believe in finding excellent, quality homes for cats and kittens that have found their ways into our hearts and homes. Adopting a cat is a lifetime commitment to the cat, it is not something to take lightly, or done on whim.

Our Petfinder site was created as a safety net for cats and kittens that local cat rescues are unable or unwilling to assist with. Our volunteers work "in the trenches" rescuing kittens from dangerous environments. We have rescued kittens from drug houses, underneath buildings, creeks, automalls, fast food restauarant parking lots, fields, ditches, alleys, sewer drains, abandoned houses, golf courses, animal shelters, amusement parks, corporations, hospitals....you name it, we have rescued cats from there! Our volunteers have worked with cat rescues over the years to assist with getting all of our rescued kitties adopted out. The Solano Feral Cat Group believes in getting the homeless kittens and cats out of feral cat colonies and into loving homes. These cats and kittens are our priority. We focus on INTERCEPTING these cats and kittens BEFORE they are surrendered to the shelter. We are their safety net.

“Not to hurt our humble brethren (the animals) is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission--to be of service to them whenever they require it... If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.” -- Saint Francis of Assisi-

Help us grow our safety net for these cats and kittens that desperately need everyone's help. Adopting a kitty from our web site helps our hardworking volunteers to get back out there spaying and neutering the feral cats and preventing these cats and kittens from being born homeless in the first place. The Solano Feral Cat Group applauds the wonderful people in this community who are willing to help homeless cats by spaying and neutering them, and helping them find loving homes whenever possible. This site gives compassionate feral cat caregivers an additional venue to find homes for the cats and kittens they have altered and rescued. This past year we have seen tremendous progress in reducing and stabilizing the sizes of feral cat colonies by spaying and neutering the adult cats, and by rescuing, socializing, and finding homes for the very young kittens in colonies. Many properly managed feral cat colonies have had no kittens born in years, due to their caretakers actively getting the colonies under control though our low cost spay/neuter program. However, due to the downturn of the economy and the increasing amount of foreclosed homes, we are seeing more and more abandoned pet cats on the streets trying to fend for themselves. This is truly a heartbreaking situation. The Solano Feral Cat Group is working overtime to help these cats. You can help us to help homeless cats by adopting a cat from our web site, fostering a homeless cat until we can assist you in finding the cat a new home, and through financial donations to cover the costs of their spay/neuter,vaccines,etc. Donations are very much appreciated.

We invite you to join us in our mission as part of the No-Kill movement by adopting a rescued cat or kitten listed on our site, spaying and neutering your own animals, and helping us spread the word about the importance of spaying and neutering. You can also help by volunteering at one of our spay/neuter clinics, help with fundraising, or driving cats to spay/neuter appointments. Whatever your niche is, we can find a volunteer job for you! We welcome volunteers of all ages and abilities!
