Our Featured Pet...

Irish is a wonderfully sweet and loving boy!! He's a long legged regal 4 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound. He's come so far since he's been with us here in rescue!! He was very timid, nervous and shy when he arrived. He wasn't even comfortable being hugged or kissed. He would tense up and try to run from anyone who tried to give him love. With lots of love and reassurance, he's learned to love, trust and be loved. And, he loves it!! Irish loves to cuddle and gives gentle hugs. What a transformation! It's easy to fall in love with Irish the moment you meet him.

News Foster homes needed! Please consider opening your hearts and your homes to a dog in need. All of the dogs are good with other dogs, children, men and women. And, all are eager for love and attention! If you or anyone you know can help, please contact Charlot by email at or phone at 530-643-1694. We are grateful for any help you can offer! Dexter's Rescue Remedy had chain link kennel panels and no-climb horse fencing stollen and, as a result, are now in need of both types of fencing. So, if you have either of these types of fencing lying around and would like to donate them for a good cause, please contact Charlot at 530-643-1694 or by email at

Dexter's Rescue Remedy is a non-profit organization that is volunteer operated and relies on adoption fees and tax deductible donations to meet the dogs' and wolfdogs' needs. We always appreciate and need donations of dog food. Do you have opened bags of dog food or canned food that you no longer need? Well, we would love to have those bags or cans of food! Our rescue dogs aren't picky ....... they just LOVE to eat. Also, if you have meat, towels, blankets, collars, treats, toys, etc. to donate, it's always appreciated and the dogs are always happy to have them. Monetary donations are always welcome. Maybe you have blankets or towels that are old, faded, discolored, etc. We can put those to good use. You probably have toys laying around that your dog has become uninterested in ........ donate them to a good cause! Just slip us an email or phone call and we'll come and pick up your donated supplies. Or, bring 'em by! Then you could meet some of our wonderful dogs!

Who We Are

Dexter's Rescue Remedy is a non-profit dog and wolfdog rescue located in Northern California. Our rescue is named after the first hound rescued by our group. He was a large male Basset Hound named "Dexter" that was saved from a lonely existence in a backyard in Los Banos, CA. He was full of fleas and ticks, lethargic, anemic, filthy and emaciated. His toenails were so long that his dewclaws had grown into his dewclaw pads by 1/2" and were infected. He also had a lump at the base of his tail the size of a golf ball that his owner said she had never noticed. It took a few months, but we got Dexter all fixed up and finally found the perfect home for him. Dexter was treated like a king by his new family, taking nightly walks in the neighborhood and walks on the beach every weekend. He had such a special way about him that people were drawn to him and would stop to pet and talk about this exceptional boy. He loved attention and would groan while looking up adoringly at the person doling out the attention. Dexter's life was cut short by cancer at 9 years old. But, his two years with his new family were wonderful and probably the best he's ever known. Everyone will miss Dexter very much, but his legacy lives on in our rescue efforts every day. We rescue and rehome scent hounds such as Basset Hounds, Beagles, Bloodhounds, Plott Hounds, Black and Tan Coonhounds, Bluetick Coonhounds, etc., as well as Wolfdogs, molossur breeds such as Mastiffs, Great Danes, St. Bernards, German Shepherds and a variety of other breeds. Our rescue dogs usually come from high kill shelters and, occasionally, owner surrenders as space permits. All of our rescued dogs and Wolfdogs enjoy spacious living areas with other dogs and are not confined to dog runs.
