Who We Are

ICRA is an all volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the suffering of the abandoned cat population of Alameda and Oakland, California, through widespread spay and neuter of owned and unowned community cats, and to educate people to their plight. We provide foster homes for our rescues until we can place them into loving homes through our adoption program. We do not have a shelter. On a limited basis, we humanely trap feral cats in order to spay/neuter them before releasing them back to their colonies. On a larger scale, we provide information and education to the public to empower them to do trap, neuter, release in their neighborhoods and to socialize and to place as many cats as possible into permanent homes.

Adopting a friend

To adopt a cat or kitten from ICRA, we will first ask you to interview and fill out an adoption application with one of our adoption coordinators. You can do this at our adoption site at Petco, South Shore Center in Alameda Saturdays from 11 AM to 4 PM or by calling us at 510-869-2584 or by emailing us. Once the initial screening process is completed, we will do a home visit and finalize the adoption by bringing the cat(s) or kitten(s) to your home. Prior to adoption, all of ICRA's cats and kittens are tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), given an FVRCP vaccination, dewormed for roundworms, given Advantage for fleas, and spayed or neutered.
