In 2014 we spayed/neutered 430 cats, which included 135 kittens later adopted out as pets, 67 cats owned by low-income people, plus the feral cats put through our TNR (trap, neuter, return) program.
Most of our kittens are adopted out for $250 through Duncan Pets, a full service pet store in Duncan, BC, which acts as our adoption center. Adult cats, older kittens, and special needs kittens are adopted out directly from the foster homes and their profiles are posted on this website.
Cowichan Cat Rescue is a federally registered charity which has operated a trap, neuter and return program in the Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, BC, since 1999. In addition to our TNR program, we take in young kittens and formerly domestic strays that we find in the wild, foster them until they are socialized, and then spay/neuter, vaccinate, treat for parasites, and health check them before adopting them out. All of our kittens and cats, unless specifically excepted, come with a thirty day health guarantee. We also place 'barn cats', which are sterilized and vaccinated adult feral cats, who cannot be returned to where they came from, usually due to changes in the use of the property they formerly occupied. When funds allow, we also run a low-income spay and neuter program for people officially designated as low-income.
We have no shelter, office, or HQ, and are simply a group of volunteers who do our rescue work out of our homes. But we maintain an active Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/cowichancatrescue . You can also find us at www.cowichancatrescue.org and sign up for our newsletter.
Duncan Pets acts as the adoption center for our kittens, and the store is located at 350 Trans-Canada Highway, Duncan, BC, Canada.
