Party with a Purpose

Angel Haven Animal Rescue Plays Host to Human Society Contributors

Proponents of the “No Pet Left Behind” legislation, sponsored by the Humane Society, gathered at the home of Kerry Ransom on Sunday, June 11, to provide support for this important bill. Guests watched an emotional video provided by the Humane Society that showed actual rescue of pets in New Orleans and interviews with their owners shortly after Hurricane Katrina struck the gulf city. The video was a painful reminder of how victims were forced to leave their pets behind in the midst of the disaster. House Bill SS-2548 passed with overwhelming support from both aisles of the legislature and now moves to the Senate for a vote. Although touched by the events shown in the video, animal lovers attending the fund-raiser celebrated the early success of the bill with food, drink, raffle prizes, face painting and henna tattooing. In addition, many attendees were able to meet new people from other animal organizations who share a common purpose and discuss concerns about the welfare of all animals. Approximately 50 people attended and raised nearly $1,500 for the Humane Society’s Legislative Fund – about 33 percent over the original goal. Thanks to everyone who contributed and/or attended!
