The pet overpopulation epidemic is so staggering that for every animal born in the United States to have a home each and every human being would have to own 6 dogs and 9 cats. So in actuality, a family of four, 2 parents and 2 children, would have to own 24 dogs and 36 cats. PLEASE, SPAY & NEUTER YOUR PETS!

 About Us

The goal of The Animal Farm is to increase public involvement in finding positive solutions to the homeless companion animal problem in Greene County and beyond. We work to strengthen the partnership with others to develop anti-cruelty laws, regulations, and humane enforcement initiatives.

WE DO NOT EUTHANIZE OUR ADOPTABLE ANIMALS. Instead, we promote spay and neuter as a way of decreasing unwanted animal births.

Your donations are tax deductible. We are a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. We depend on adoption fees and public donations to continue to operate the no-kill shelter.

Who We Are

Greene County Animal Farm, a no-kill shelter, was founded on the belief that every companion animal has the right to live out its natural life in a loving home. Acts of protective intervention by The Animal Farm give a second chance at life to many companion animals. We believe a unique and reciprocal bond exists between humans and animals. To foster this bond, we accept the responsibility to assist people and homeless animals in achieving this goal.

Note:  We are no longer taking in pets because we are full.  Thank you for understanding.

Need a Tax-Deduction?

Need a tax-deduction for this year's taxes? All your donations are tax-deductible as The Greene County Animal Farm is a non-profit organization. We are a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

 Adopting a friend:

We strive to place animals in a home where they will receive love and care for the remainder of their lives. We want to assist you in making a choice that works well for your family. For that reason, you will be asked to complete an Adoption Application that will be screened by our shelter administrator.

Adoption Fees

The adoption fee helps cover part of the shelter's cost of providing required vaccines appropriate at the time of adoption and spaying/neutering.

Dogs:  The adoption fee is $100 for dogs.  Dogs that require additional medical treatment to restore them to health and ready them for adoption may require a higher adoption fee.

Cats:  The adoption fee is $65 for cats.

You may make an appointment to view the animals for adoption by calling 870-240-8117. Please leave a message if your call is not answered. Volunteers may be outside working or doing a vet run.

NOTE: No animals are released to new owners until an application review and vet screening has been completed. This means that if you come to the shelter and find a new friend to adopt, you will not be able to take the animal home that day, unless you have been pre-approved for adoption. To get pre-approved, fill out our Adoption Application .

Top Ten Reasons to
Adopt an Adult Dog
(rather than a puppy)

10)  What you see is what you get.  None of this "cute little Clifford magically morphs into a dog the size of a house!"
9)  Just as "bondable" as a puppy--their hearts are bigger, to hold even more love for YOU.
8)  The "chew everything in sight" stage is OVER!!!
7)  They have all their expensive puppy vet care out of the way already.
6)  They may already be potty trained; if not, it should be easier and take less time--fewer accidents!!!
5)  Puppy insanity has settled into a more consistent personality--or should we say "dogality?"
4)  They are mature enough to realize that you are their HERO!
3)  Why run with all the other sheep?  Be an individual.
2)  Better manners!

And the number one reason to adopt an adult dog:

1)  They need you more.
