Monroe County Animal Shelter

Our Pet List

NEEDS LIST -- Cat litter, laundry detergent, bleach & other cleaners, paper towels, collars & leashes, pet toys. Suggestion -- GIFT CARDS for local stores selling these items, so we can pick up as needed. We also need used towels and bedding, but we cannot accept pet food due to our participation in a program with Hill's Science Diet. CASH DONATIONS for vet bills, medicines, and other expenses are greatly appreciated. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * STATE LAW now requires that all pets adopted from animals shelters, humane societies, rescues, etc. be spayed or neutered. Partnering with the Monroe County Humane Society, the shelter now offers vouchers totaling the average cost of the surgeries at area veterinary clinics to assist adopters.

Who We Are

The Monroe County Animal Shelter is funded by Monroe County and the municipalities of Monroeville and Excel. Animals are accepted from anywhere in the county without charge; a $25 charge applies to out-of-county animals, which are accepted only if space is available.

Adopting a friend

Our adoption fee is $75.00, $50.00 of which goes toward spaying or neutering. The Monroe County Humane Society offers an additional voucher, covering the average cost of the surgery. The adoption fee also covers worming and some vaccinations. In addition, a free check-up for shelter pets is offered by The Pet Clinic or Airport Animal Clinic, both in Monroeville. Because of limited resources and personnel, we are not able to facilitate long-distance adoptions and transports. We hope that potential adopters will visit us and meet the pets in person! PLEASE NOTE: We are not set up to take credit/debit cards and can no longer take out of town checks. We hope that it will not be an inconvencience to pay adoption fees in cash! TO REQUEST AN ADOPTION APPLICATION, please e-mail
