About Us

Adopting A Friend

Are you ready to adopt?

First, ask yourself these five questions:

1. Do I have the money?  The adoption fee is just the start. Can you provide quality food, safe toys, monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and routine vet care?

 2. Do I have the time?  Dogs especially require training, active exercise, and socializing with the family.

3. Do I have a plan?  What will you do with your pet when you are at work? On vacation? If you have to move?

4. Do I have full agreement?   The entire family must be ready for a new pet, including any pets you already have.

5. Do I have the commitment?   Unlike children, your pet will rely on you every day for his/her entire life. Are you willing to provide a lifetime of care?

So, are you really ready to adopt?

Who We Are

Calhoun County Humane Society (dba The Animal Shelter) is a 501c3 non-profit shelter for homeless pets located in Anniston AL.

Adopters are encouraged to visit the shelter to make the right match. Please only bring small children after narrowing the field to a few dogs you want to meet in the outdoor play yard. The kennels are too loud and scary for small children.

An approved application is required and most dogs will need a fenced yard. Tethering, chaining, and roaming are unacceptable.

All animals are vaccinated and will be spayed/neutered prior to leaving the shelter. This is a real bargain, as our adoption fee of $100 for dogs and $75 for cats is much lower than the average vetting bill!

Please adopt a shelter pet!
