Avaliable Forever Friends!

Metro Animal Shelter microchips all dogs and cats when they get adopted. We have joined 24HR Pet Watch and many other shelters to help companion animals reunite with their owners.

For rescue organizations ONLY: If you are a 501(c)3 rescue organization that is interested in rescuing one of our animals, please contact Jennifer Earp at jearp@metroanimalshelter.org. Your organization must provide us with a copy of your tax-exempt status, 2 personal references (either another rescue, adoptive home, etc), and a vet reference. For a rescue fee of $75, the animal will be spayed/neutered, heartworm or FeLV/FIV tested, up-to-date on shots (including rabies), dewormed, and microchipped. We try and save as many homeless animals as possible and enjoy working with all rescue organizations.
Our shelter uses the SAFER test that helps us identify dogs who will make wonderful pets, dogs that need a small amount of behavior modification, and dogs that will not make appropriate pets. Ultimately, this means better placements, safer in-shelter interactions, and fewer returns. This test, however, is not a guarantee of the dog's behavior once it leaves the shelter and is placed in a home environment. Any dog is unpredictable in a home setting. Our profile of each animal is a guideline ONLY to help us match the appropriate pet with a potential adopter.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are in need of dependable volunteers at the shelter. Volunteer opportunities range from bathing, socializing, and evaluating animals to assisting with adoptions. For more information contact Alecia Tingle at 752-9101.
