Our Featured Weimaraner...

Jake

Jake is our Weim of the month! This sweet, goofy boy is 1.5 years old and looking for his forever home. Jake loves to play with other dogs, is great with children, and truly wants to please his people. Jake needs some training, but he is super smart and is a quick learner. Jake needs an active, structured family where he can thrive. If interested in adopting Jake, please submit a WRS Adoption Application!

Who We Are

Weimaraner Rescue of the South (WRS) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to saving Weimaraners in need in Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia and placing them into loving forever homes. We have been saving Weimaraners throughout our footprint for more than 10 years.

Our priority is to rescue Weimaraners who find themselves in animal controls and high-kill shelters in Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Tennessee, Louisiana, and Georgia. We also offer "courtesy posts" for owners who feel they can no longer provide a home for their Weimaraner. All Weimaraners in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any medical issues they might have including but not limited to heartworm disease, orthopedic concerns, and vision issues. Our efforts are funded by adoption fees and donations from "Weim-loving" people like you.

We have Weims ranging from puppies to mature seniors but no matter how many we find wonderful homes for we never seem to run out of wonderful dogs who are in need of forever homes. We know seniors are so special. Can you imagine being a senior member of your family and being left at a shelter because a younger member came to live in your home? Unfortunately, that is what happens to many dogs. These special seniors who are adopted add so much to their new families. Their new families would tell you they wouldn't take anything for the time spent with the seniors they adopt. You may be suprised at the depth of love you receive back from a mature dog!

Fees and Donations

ADOPTION FEES: EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 2016 OUR ADOPTION FEE FOR PUPPIES 6 MONTHS AND YOUNGER IS $375 WITH A $100 REFUNDABLE SPAY/NEUTER CONTRACT, $300 FOR ADULT WEIMARANERS, SENIORS AND MIXED BREEDS $225. This includes microchip, spay/neuter, and Heartworm prevention. All dogs have been fully vetted and treated for any medical issues of which we are aware.

Foster, Adopt, or Volunteer

Contributions of your time whether it be in home visits, transport, and especially foster care are greatly appreciated. In order to foster, you must first go through the same interview process as an adopting family. Just click on the link to complete a WRS Foster Application.

Are you ready to adopt? Make sure you do your homework on this breed before taking this step as this is not the breed for the average household and you must be committed to their needs as well as your own. Still want to add a Weimaraner to your family? Great! Fill out a WRS Adoption Application to begin the adoption process with us. You will be contacted by one of our volunteers to begin the approval process which includes a veterinary background check, phone interview, and home visit.

Maybe you are not ready to adopt or foster but you still want to help. Simply complete a WRS Volunteer Application to help! There are still lots of ways you can help save a Weimaraner in need!

Come Visit Us!

We are not a shelter, therefore, we are not in one central location. We place our dogs in loving foster homes throughout the deep South so we can learn about each one enabling us to adopt them to their perfect family. Alabama hosts the majority of our rescues although we do have foster homes throughout our Southern footprint. Our dogs are not available for visitors unless an adoption application has been approved for them specifically.

Visit us on our website www.weimrescue.com to see which of our amazing dogs could help complete your family!
