Who We Are
The Azalea City Cat Coalition was established in August of 2007. We are a non-profit organization in Mobile, Alabama run by volunteers and donations. Our volunteers are dedicated to putting an end to the unnecessary suffering and euthanasia of stray cats that live outside in the community, through a method known as TNR. This pro-active response is the only humane solution to controlling the overpopulation of stray cats in Mobile. Orriginally developed in Europe decades ago TNR has found its way to USA with well documented success. TNR programs are being developed up in every state. 40 years of trap and kill has proven to be ineffective!!
What We Do
We DO NOT trap cats for the purposes of euthanization or relocation. This is a program that is focused on helping people help cats! Remember- The cats we have listed on Petfinder are our adoptable rescues that we have encountered as we focus on helping the feral cats of Mobile. Though our focus is on spay/neuter and maintaining healthy feral cat colonies, we also come across friendly, non-feral cats in need of serious help. We often nurse these cats and kittens back to health, get them up to date with shots, and spay or neuter them when they reach appropriate weight. They are then fostered and put up for adoption on Petfinder!
How You Can Help
There are many ways! We need volunteers, foster homes, in-kind donations and skills of every trade. Carpentry, sewing, cooking, any kind of talent you have, we can put it to great use. It's all for the cats! Contact (251) 648-7582 and leave a message for the "Volunteer Program" with your name and number.
Trap Neuter Return (
) programs are the most humane and effective approach to improve the lives of feral cats by reducing the population. As part of this program, stray cats are humanely trapped, taken to the veterinarian for spaying or neutering, and released. The adoptable ones are fostered until they can be found a good home. Volunteers commit to providing them with adequate food, water, shelter and care. Feral cat success stories are happening right here in Mobile. We plan to make the future brighter for stray cats everywhere. A world free of homeless pets depends on the help of caring volunteers like you!!
The basic rules of good cat rescue are: Find them, FIX them and then Feed and water them in your area!!! Remeber cats dont wait to reproduce while you are busy doing other things!! Simply removing the kittens and finding them homes wont work if you dont fix the mother cat! Neglect is also a form of cruelty.
The law in Alabama on animal Welfare. Report abuse to local law enforcement. Know the law it, will add credibility when making a report!
Animal Cruelty ss13 A-11-14 is defined by the Code of Alabama as:
A person who intentionally or recklessly, subjects animals to cruel mistreatment or kills or injures any animal without good cause. This is a class B misdemeanor
