Who We Are

Friends of Pets is a non-profit organization formed in 1989 as an advocate for the animals at the Anchorage Animal Care & Control Center. Our vision is to make Anchorage a community where all pets are loved, wanted, and cared for, through education, prevention and intervention. Friends of Pets mission is to provide vital animal welfare and protective services for abandoned animals, with respect, compassion and integrity. Our programs intervene to reduce the euthanasia rates at the Anchorage Animal Care & Control Center, to promote responsible pet ownership and to improve the quality of life for companion animals.

Adopting a friend

Ready to open your heart and home? Friends of Pets seeks to match each pet with a responsible person for a loving, lifetime commitment. All pets are spayed or neutered before adoption. Pets are vaccinated, receive needed medical treatment, and are microchipped for permanent identification. These services are included in the adoption fee (cats $100, dogs $150). A home visit is part of the application process, and for this reason we rarely place outside Alaska. Most placements are in the local area, with the exception that in some other Alaskan communities we may be able to have an animal shelter or rescue representative conduct a home visit on our behalf.

Come Visit Us!

You'll find us at events throughout the community, with helpful pet advice, spay/neuter assistance coupons, and of course those great FOP fashions and yummy cookies!
